Duties of a Magistrate
The Magistrate works under the general direction of the Court
Administrator. This is technical legal and responsible court clerical
work in the issuing and recording of arrest warrants, complaints and
affidavits, granting of bail, receiving guilty pleas, collection and
accountability of fines, costs, cash bonds, and restitution and
maintenance of official court records.
Work involves interviewing citizens with complaints and hearing charges
brought by law enforcement officials
determining the existence of probable cause, proper charge, and issuing
the appropriate complaints; affidavit and/or warrant. The Magistrate has a large responsibility in handling money, cost computations,
accepting fines, making change and receipts, performs data entry to
update court records or fines or to research or retrieve information.
Work requires the exercise of sound, logical, and independent judgment
in the application of state and municipal laws and court procedures.
