
Hiring Process
Overview
Typically we test every
year in the event we have an opening. Applicants may apply at any
time through Alabama Employment services office in
If you are currently certified by the Alabama Fire
College and Personnel Standards Commission you are not required to take
the following tests.
Part of the hiring process is testing. There are three initial
tests, and applicants must pass each before moving on to the next.
Testing procedures include:
· General entry-level written exam
· Physical agility test (CPAT)
· Oral interview
Once complete with initial testing, applicants are placed on an eligibility list for a final interview with Fire Command Staff personnel. As openings occur, candidates are selected from the eligibility list for further testing. These tests include:
· Background investigation
· Medical Exam and Drug screen
Upon selection, employee will attend a 13-week session at the Firefighter Academy.
Qualifications
Application minimum qualifications:
· Must be a U. S. Citizen
· High School Diploma/GED.,
· Clear police record (minor violations only)
·
Meet medical/vision requirements of
NFPA1582, Current Edition
Hiring minimum qualifications:
· State Certified EMT and Firefighter 2
· Must be at least 19 years of age
· Must possess/maintain valid Alabama Driver’s License at the time of employment
·
Must live, or relocate within three
months of employment to within a 20minute drive radius of downtown
