Founded
in 2000, the Troy-Pike Cultural Arts
Center began when a group of local
citizens saw the potential in the
old Troy post office building. The
elegant old Troy post office on the
corner of Walnut and Market streets
in downtown Troy, Alabama (circa 1911)
they believed was a landmark well
worth preservation.
Situated
in Alabama’s River Heritage
region, the Pike County area is flourishing
with talent, creativity, and cultural
diversity, thus there has been a critical
need for a center in which these resources
could be collectively incorporated.
There are several potential benefits
to our community as a result of this
effort. The Troy-Pike Cultural Arts
Center would:
•
Enhance our economic potential by
drawing businesses and individuals
to our community by portraying an
increased quality of life
•
Provide support for the current Arts
Council
•
Provide opportunities for adults and
youth alike to experience the arts
in a variety of genres from
music and visual arts to dance, literature
and theater
•
Serve as a creative hub, hosting workshops,
events and recitals, and housing a
world-class art collection
•
Provide an International presence
through Troy University by exposing
our citizens to new cultures, and
foreign students to ours
