Welcome to
Troy
On behalf of Mayor Jimmy Lunsford, the Troy City Council and every
citizen of Troy, we welcome you to the City of Troy.
Whether you're here for
business or pleasure we invite you to explore all our city has to offer,
from our historical and thriving downtown shopping area and
Troy
University,
the second largest university in the state of
Alabama,
to the beautiful new Pike
Cultural
Arts
Center.
Troy was originally known as Deer Stand Hill (an
Indian hunting ground) and first settled about 1824. It was later known
as Zebulon and then Centreville before being renamed
Troy
in 1838. The
city is world renown, mainly because of the international status of
Troy
University;.
however, it is noted throughout
the
South for having wonderful
people and a great
quality
of life—clean, fresh air, sparkling ponds, and lakes for fishing and
swimming.
Troy
is centrally located off U.S. Hwy. 231 between North Alabama and the
Gulf
Coast
beaches, making it a great stopping point for travelers coming or going
in either direction. A must-see on the route is the
Pike
Pioneer
Museum,
which has been visited by people from around the nation and the world.
You'll want to stay in our
affordable motels and enjoy our friendly, hometown
hospitality. You'll be surprised to find out just how much our city has
to offer. And always remember,
Troy
is a wonderful place to live, work and to visit!
